  • Maintain a healthy weight

Make sure you have an ideal BMI 19 – 24.

Eat Food rich in antioxidants, lower your carb intake and try and cut out sugar completely.

Keep track of what you eat; smaller portions are always a good way to start.

  • Chart your basal body temperature

Your BBT is your lowest body temperature and is measured when you’re fully at rest. Your BBT temperature fluctuates throughout your cycle and rises the day after you ovulate, do this for a few months and keep a chart so you can eventually pin point your day of ovulation. Your BBT will stay elevated till your next period. 

  • Use an ovulation calendar

There are so many Ovulation Calendar’s online or even these really awesome ovulation calendar apps on Google play store that you could download, input your dates and it will determine you’re most fertile days. It even gives you a reminder on the day you are ovulating according to the data you have entered.

  • Cut Caffeine

This is such a hard one especially for me as it’s the first thing I crave in the morning, but try some alternatives such as rooibos tea or even decaffeinated coffee to start as there some really great brands out there so much so that you cannot tell the difference.

  • Keep your exercise routine light and easy

Be careful not to over exert yourself as intense training could affect your menstrual cycle throwing your cycle completely out of sync. So keep things light and easy when trying to conceive.

  • Stop Smoking

Smoking is linked to early miscarriage and ectopic pregnancies to name a few. The sooner you ditch the habit the better your chances of conceiving and carrying your healthy baby to term.

  • Cut Alcohol

There are no specific studies that show drinking an occasional glass of wine while trying to conceive will hinder your chances but to be on the safe side and to be sure your unborn baby doesn’t have the slightest chance of being exposed to alcohol I would suggest ditching this as soon as you start trying to conceive.

  • Take a multi vitamin

Load up on your multivitamin’s as soon as you can. Folic acid will help reduce the risk of spina bifida and other neural tube defects in babies. Try an over the counter multivitamin or ask your Gynae /OBGYN to recommend a prenatal vitamin.

  • Have a check up with your Gynae

Have an overall check up with your Gynae especially when there fertility issues going forward and start working out a plan going forward.

  • Have lots of sex

When trying to conceive 2 or 3 times a week in your fertile period is recommended even try different times of the day especially right before you ovulate and don’t forget to keeps thing exciting.
