The main symptom of infertility is the inability to get pregnant, after 1 year or more of trying, or if you have multiple miscarriages. When you are older than 35 your infertility risk is even higher.
A menstrual cycle that’s too long (35 days or more), too short (less than 21 days), irregular or absent can mean that you’re not ovulating.
First Steps to take when trying to pin point your reason for not conceiving.
Keep a diary of your menstrual cycle so you can pin point your exact day of ovulation. As per your cycle check if you have any symptoms of ovulation on your peak fertile day. Another way to check and which is more accurate would be an ovulation kit which you can purchase at any pharmacy.
Don’t forget to start taking Folic acid or some sort of prenatal vitamin as soon as you start trying to conceive.
Once you determine this and timed intercourse doesn’t work you would need to make an appointment with your gynae for them to run the necessary tests on you and also best to get your partners sperm count tested.
Your doctor will be checking the following:
Ovulation, Egg Quality, Shape of your uterus, Fibroids, PCOS, Tube Blockage, as well as sperm count on your partner.
Depending on these factors the first suggestion would be to start a treatment of Clommid which is an oral medication taken from day 3 to day 7 of your cycle, this would be to help you ovulate.
Should this not prove successful after 3-6 rounds you would need to see a fertility specialist.
The first course of treatment at a fertility clinic would be IUI
Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is a fertility treatment that involves placing sperm inside a woman’s uterus to facilitate fertilization. The goal of IUI is to increase the number of sperm that reach the fallopian tubes and increase the chance of fertilization.
The final step would be In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a complex series of procedures used to help with fertility or prevent genetic problems and assist with the conception of a child. During IVF , mature eggs are collected (retrieved) from ovaries and fertilized by sperm in a lab.
This would be your best chance of conceiving with high success rates.
