Your fertile window is made up of a few days each menstrual cycle when conception is possible based on the combined maximum lifespan of human sperm and eggs. The main benefit of fertility charting when trying to conceive is being able to identify your fertile window so that intercourse can be optimally timed.
The absolute maximum fertile window based on the combined maximum lifespan of human sperm and egg is 6 days. These days are the five days before ovulation and the day of ovulation. This is because sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract in favourable conditions for up to five days after intercourse and can be waiting there for when the egg is released at ovulation.
